Agency in Action: Unlocking Student Voice & Choice with Google Classroom's Built-In Recorder

True student agency starts with giving learners the freedom to choose how they express themselves. Instead of wrestling with external apps, separate logins, or clunky file uploads, you can now use Google Classroom’s built-in recording tool to create a simpler, more interactive learning environment!

๐Ÿ’ก Teacher & Student Power-Up: If your school is using Google Workspace for Education Plus or the Teaching and Learning Upgrade, this premium feature is fully active! Not only can students record their work, but teachers can also record audio, video, or screen instructions directly when creating assignments.

Here is a quick guide on how to use it, along with ready-to-copy lesson prompts and simple instruction cards to share with your students today.

๐Ÿ“ธ How It Works (For Students)

When students open an assignment, they will find the new recording tools located right inside their work area.

1. Opening the Menu

Instead of uploading a file, students click the blue + Add or create button in their Your work box. Underneath the usual Google Docs and Slides options, they will see three premium additions: Record audio, Record video, and Record screen.

2. The Recording Screen

Once they select a tool, a simple window appears. They click the red button to record, speak clearly, and click stop when finished. They can review their recording before posting it to their assignment.

๐Ÿ’ก Copy & Paste Lesson Choice Boards

Click the "Copy Template" button on any box below to grab the pre-formatted, narrow instructions and paste them directly into your Google Classroom assignment description.
